Chesstempo for Mobile APP
The chesstempo tool is ideal for training at home on your computer or PC browser but you can also easily install it on your mobile with Android or iOS operating system.
The Chess Tempo mobile app offers most of the features also accessible from chesstempo.com such as playing chess online, solving chess tactics exercises, chess endgames, opening training and analysis board. Personally, my favorite feature is solving small tactical exercises, but it must be admitted that the endgame trainer has improved reasonably in the last updates of the site.

The chesstempo game room will allow you to:
- Play chess against other Chess Tempo users.
- Supports both live and correspondence chess games.

Chesstempo Chess Openings Database
Chess Tempo has a large game database that is very useful for studying chess openings through chesstempo.com and its mobile apps. Chesstempo’s chess database has nothing to envy to Chessbase, possibly the best chess software on the market, but the chesstempo opening trainer will allow you to:
- Create multiple opening repertoires for White and Black.
- Import repertoires from PGN or by entering the moves on the board.
- Train your repertoires using your rote learning system.
- Limit training to one branch of a repertoire, a single repertoire, or all repertoires of a color.
- Option to restrict training to a limited depth.
- Ability to train against the movements that are proving to be the most resistant to spaced repetition learning.
- Comment on each position or move, and read the comments that others have chosen to make public.
- Add evaluations or engine annotations like +=, ?! etc. to each move of the opening repertoire.
- Export the repertoire and its comments and annotations to the PGN.
- Graphs showing repertoire learning status and learning history over time.
- Use the opening explorer to choose moves for your repertoire (limited to a depth of 10 moves for free accounts).
- For premium members, the ability to use the cloud engine to order analytics on any position.
Without an updated openings database that has improved a lot and can be used to review your lines or create complete repertoires analyzed in detail that are registered in the cloud publicly or only for personal use.
Chesstempo Endgames Practice Tool
Chess endgames are one of the most difficult facets of the game, not only due to the complexity of chess knowledge and learning that may be required, but also because of the ability to absorb ideas and apply them to tactics at the highest level.
A few weeks ago Chesstempo has updated its chess endgame trainer with a new system that you can access from the website and mobile applications with two important changes:
Endgames Benchmark
Chesstempo bets on the introduction of a new training mode, called Benchmark mode that uses the average number of moves made by all users in successful solutions instead of the fastest way to obtain the solution. Once the scores have been set, this should provide a more forgiving mode, where sensible plays that end up making more moves to mate receive more generous scoring adjustments than in the existing Theory and Practice modes.
6 and 7 Piece Chess Endgames
6 and 7 piece endings are now available in addition to the 3, 4 and 5 piece endings available in the old endings trainer. 6-piece endings are available in reference, theory, and practice modes. 7-piece endings are only available in Benchmark mode as they only have win, loss, and draw information, and do not have depth to match the numbers that are required to score Theory and Practice problems. To provide challenging responses to the opponent without depth information the stockfish module is used to help choose the opponent’s moves in many 7-piece endgame situations where the solution may be more complex.
Other improvements over the previous version include endgame solving session statistics, the ability to easily replay the problem after solving it, and access to distraction-free mode when solving in full screen.
How many Endgames can I solve each day?
The new chess tempo endgame trainer has the same usage fees as the old one, with 2 problems per day for free members, 20 per day for silver members, and unlimited resolution for gold and diamond members.
It will take a few days for the scores of the new endings to stabilize and for the average lengths of the solutions of the reference moves to reach stability. To help speed this up, Benchmark mode will replace Theory mode as the new default final ranking type.
For more details on the new mode and the endgame trainer in general, please refer to the endgame training section of the user guide.
Well nothing! It seems that there is no excuse to solve endings anymore!

Why I Use Chesstempo in My Chess Lessons
In my online chess lessons I rely on Chesstempo because it gives students structured tactical and endgame training with instant feedback, which is much more efficient than using static positions from a book. The combination of rated tactics, spaced‑repetition, opening trainer and detailed statistics lets me design personalized training plans for each student, from beginners to advanced tournament players. If you want to see how I integrate Chesstempo and other tools into my training programs, you can check my chess lessons page.
Advanced Chesstempo Training Benefits
Many chess coaches recommend Chesstempo as a long‑term training platform because it combines tactical patterns, endgame technique and opening understanding in a single ecosystem. Instead of jumping between multiple sites and apps, you can track your progress with ratings, performance graphs and detailed statistics that highlight your strengths and weaknesses over time. This makes Chesstempo especially useful for ambitious club players who want structured chess improvement rather than just casual puzzle solving.
Another big advantage of Chesstempo is the flexibility of its custom training sets and spaced‑repetition system, especially for premium users. You can build problem sets based on tactical themes like pins, forks or discovered attacks, focus on your previous mistakes, or create tailored endgame and opening repertoires to review on a regular schedule. The adaptive rating and repetition logic ensure that the platform keeps serving you positions at the right difficulty, so you always train in your optimal learning zone.
For players who like to study on the go, the official Chess Tempo mobile apps on Android and iOS mirror most of the features available on the web version, including tactics training, online play, opening training and endgame practice. The apps offer a clean, touch‑friendly interface where you can solve puzzles, play live or correspondence games, and run cloud engine analysis of your positions directly from your phone or tablet. This makes Chesstempo one of the most complete mobile solutions for serious chess training, whether you are commuting, travelling or just away from your computer.
